TRAVELLING TO AND FROM MANCHESTER AIRPORT

Getting from the Airport to Manchester City Centre By Public Transport

MANCHESTER AIRPORT STATION

Trains and Trams travel from the airport station located between Terminals 1 and 2. Simply follow the signs throughout the airport for the station.

A frequent train service with a journey time of around 15 minutes runs throughout the day. Most trains travel to onward destinations such as Liverpool, Blackpool, Edinburgh and Barrow in Furness.

A single adult ticket from the airport to Manchester will cost anywhere between 3 and 6 pounds. Tickets can be purchased using cash, debit or credit card from the machines on the station concourse. If you select Manchester central zone on the ticket machine it will allow you to use the trams in the city zone once you arrive in Manchester.

Once purchased, present your ticket at the automated barrier and head to the platforms. Just check the departure screens to check that your train stops at Manchester Piccadilly, the mainline station in Manchester City centre. Numerous train operators run the services, a standard ticket will allow you to use any train.

Metrolink trams also run from the airport to the city. These take around an hour as they run through suburban South Manchester before reaching the city, and also have their own separate ticketing system.

Once on the train, you will travel to the city centre where you can catch trains to onwards destinations, or explore the city centre using the free buses outside the station, the Metrolink trams, or by foot.
